Terms of Service

Last updated: 27 July 2026

These terms cover your use of the Nestcote Android app during its closed beta. By installing and using the app, you agree to them. Please read the limits section carefully. It matters.

About this beta

Nestcote is a prototype entering a closed beta. It is distributed through Google Play’s closed testing track to a limited group of families, invited from the waiting list a few at a time.

Because it is a prototype, expect rough edges: features may change, break, or disappear as we learn from real use.

Who can use it

Nestcote is meant to be installed and configured by a parent or legal guardian, on a device belonging to their own family, to protect a child in their care. Install it only on devices you have the authority to manage.

What Nestcote does, and its limits

Nestcote analyses on-screen content in every app on the phone and covers explicit sexual content and gambling content within moments of detecting it.

This protection is not a guarantee. Please understand its real limits:

  • Like any AI system, Nestcote can miss content it should cover, or cover content it should not (a false positive).
  • Content may appear briefly on screen before it is detected and covered. Detection takes a moment, not zero time.
  • Some screens use DRM or secure-screen protection that Android itself prevents any app from analysing. Nestcote covers those screens rather than analysing them, which means the app in question stops being usable while it is covered.
  • Nestcote is tamper-resistant, not tamper-proof. On a standard, non-managed Android phone, a sufficiently determined teenager may find a way to disable, remove, or work around any app, including this one.

Nestcote is one strong layer of protection. It does not replace parental supervision, conversation, or judgment.

Beta software, provided as-is

The beta is provided free of charge, on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or fit for a particular purpose.

We may change, suspend, or end the beta at any time and for any reason, including replacing it with a different release process.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app, including content that was not covered in time, or at all.

What it costs

The beta is free. We plan to charge for Nestcote after the beta as a family plan covering two or three devices. If that changes anything for you, we will tell you before it takes effect. We will not convert a beta family into a paying one without asking.

Acceptable use

While using Nestcote, please do not:

  • Pass your beta invitation to people outside your family. The closed-testing list is how we keep the beta small enough to support properly.
  • Misrepresent what Nestcote does or does not do, including claiming it guarantees protection it does not provide.
  • Use the app to monitor anyone other than a child in your own care, or in any way that breaks the law or another person’s rights.

Changes to the beta or these terms

As the product develops, we may update these terms and the beta programme itself. We note material changes on this page and update the date at the top.
